Bank for International Settlements (BIS)

Organization headquartered in Basle that acts as the central bank for the industrial countries’ central banks. The BIS helps central banks manage and invest their foreign exchange reserves and also holds deposits of central banks so that reserves are readily available. It is an international organization that acts as a bank for central banks, fostering cooperation among them and with other agencies.
